Resolution: 4 Architecture

Founded in 1990 by Joseph Tanney and Robert Luntz, Resolution: 4 Architecture is a firm dedicated to addressing 21st century conditions through intelligent architecture and design. The firm consciously takes on a perspective facilitating the conditions required to develop sustainable methods, strategies and solutions for the current and long-range conflicts and changes facing our dynamic communities. They seek to investigate, re-investigate, work with the palpable, illuminate the obscure and understand the composite interface of architecture, its user and its context.

Resolution: 4 Architecture’s design preoccupations have included two-dimensional and three-dimensional pattern making and ceilings as landscapes. Most recently they have undertaken The Modern Modular by Resolution: 4 Architecture, a systematic methodology of design that attempts to leverage the existing methods of prefabrication of residential construction. Their efforts seek to offer the option of “mass customization” to the single-family housing market while aesthetically transforming the sub-urban fabric of America’s domestic landscape. The Modern Modular by Resolution: 4 Architecture has been exhibited in the Walker Center of Art in Minneapolis, and Bruce Mau’s Massive Change touring internationally.

Resolution: 4 Architecture has become an internationally published and highly acclaimed ten-person firm completing projects in the residential, commercial and public realms. Recent awards include:

Additional recognitions include the first place entry in the NCR International Design Competition for the Natures Theater in Columbia, South Carolina; the NY AIA award for a Manhattan-based Internet company; and the Peter Eisenman residence. Television appearances have included HGTV, The Travel Channel, DIY, CNN, the CBS Morning News and ABC’s Nightline, and their work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Time, Wired, Newsweek, Architecture, Architectural Record, Architectural Review, Domus, LaRCA, Interni, Residential Architect amongst many other notable publications.

Selected RES4 PREFABS | THE MODERN MODULAR by RESOLUTION: 4 ARCHITECTURE

As labor costs continue to rise in America, it is becoming increasingly difficult to afford the high cost of building a quality custom home. By leveraging existing construction methodologies of prefabrication, we are designing custom modern homes based on a system of ‘Modules of Use.’ These Modules have been derived from our body of predominantly urban residential work, which has been an attempt not only to accommodate, but also to articulate ‘Elements of Utility’ that are essential to sustain domestic life. Our current explorations have resulted in a series of freestanding domestic typologies that attempt to embody this essence of utility. Each design incorporates off-the-shelf materials, techniques, and spatial organizational strategies that we have employed in our previous residential work, as a small architectural practice in New York City. We believe that by combing these strategies of leveraging both prefabricated construction and our experience in efficient urban domestic planning strategies, we propose to offer an option of Mass Customization to the fabric of the American domestic sub-urban landscape, modern modular custom prefabricated homes by Resolution: 4 Architecture.
